And what a cute little man he is. what do you get when you put a very cute little baby on a kitchen bench with great-grandmas sponge cake and me with my camera…some very cute shots! but those aren’t on here—sorry. those are for family to see first. so, now that I have you looking, here are two shots from Sunday. It was a sunday that also included two dogs, one cane chair, great-grandpa’s bikes, a whole bunch of chickens, some vintage moments (well you know me…I can’t help it), a pair of 1950′s Clarks school shoes, more chickens, a red wall, a yard, two bandaids and a whole bunch of freshly made sponge cake.

Annika and Juha

It was the perfect day..sun shining, clouds kissing the blue sky, a beautiful bride and pretty bridesmaid, a handsome groom, bunting, old fashioned afternoon tea, orchids, Martha Stewart, live music, apples, sexy cars, beautiful babies, happy people, a grandfather who had just celebrated his 101st birthday, and so much love.

There was loads of happy tears.

Here are just a couple of the shots from the day and when the honeymooners get back, we will going to their farm for an after the wedding shoot with all the chickens.

Congrats to you and thank you for allowing me to capture your beautiful day. Martha would be so proud.

I love my job

Having passion in what you do is so important to getting what you want out of life. Lately I have been blessed with the best clients. Clients that let me shoot and have fun. Clients that get my vision for their shots. clients that want art. Clients that trust me. I have shoot boudoir this week – too hot to blog. I have shot pre-formals. I did a gig for the local paper. I had a very sad morning shooting another little angel. That was hard, and she was so perfect. My sincerest condolences to her family.

So it has been joy and it has been sorrow and every thing in between. I even had two of my clients jump in a river in dresses. And soon I will be shooting a secret – sorry can’t tell you all yet. It is still secret santa shhshh.

I have also joined BNI and Barter Card. New clients from these were the lovely team at Villa Mirasol and their cute little grand-daughter Milly.

So here are a mix of shots from the recent shoots.

formal and fun

It is school formals time and I got to play with some gorgeous girls:

Sunday: Ashliegh (still to come to blog world)

Tuesday: Nadia and Amelia

Wednesday: Rochelle (still getting shots off camera) so I will post them shortly but here are a couple from Amelia and Nadia’s cool shoot out at the farm:

marvellous makeup…

ok so we did this shoot and it was amazing and awesome and then at the end of the day I said to the girls and to Marvellous Megan the makeup magic maker that i would like to do some shots in a pool that is owned by a client. The pool has fabulous black/grey tiles and is long and skinny and his house is on the market so it is empty of deck chairs etc. Perfect location. So we did a quick changeroo of the makeup for a water nymph feel on Em and left Jane as a water bird and like models they went in to a very cold pool for some very hot shots. These ones are just of the makeup, as I haven’t finished the work on the OMG girls in pool shots, but it is amazing how fan the makeup looked even after Jane had swum in hers for me to get under water shots. I loved working with the girls and with Megan. She understands my visions without me having to explain them too much. We have loads of other projects that we are going to work on in between weddings and formals and life. Cant wait!!!!

Bundaberg Has Supermodels

and what a joy to not only shoot them, but discover them. Last year it was Lydia, who I think is now modeling in Melbourne, and this year it is Emmalise and Jane! You ladies ROCK big time. And worked again with the ever most fabulous and gorgeous makeup artist Megan Topham. I tell you folks, working with her is magic and her work is Un-flipping-believeable. Love her!

Beautiful Boudoir

Yes, my studio is now offering boudoir. And what a start! Two beautiful clients.

listen to you heart and wait for miracles

Today is the birthday of my first born son. I found and dusted off some journals that I wrote to him in a long time ago when I lived in Nashville and started to read them. Poems, words, pictures. I was at my most creative. I was a troubadour then. Guess I still am a bit of one. This is a short synopsis of one single moment that changed my life, and probably changed his too, as he lived in New Zealand with his father at the time of this story and I was in Nashville Tennessee.

One of my moments was when I left poverty and starvation and went to live in a mansion in Green Hills in Nashville. It was a day like any other. I had used my last dollar to catch a bus into 16th Ave to write at the label’s house that I as signed to and wrote for. I had 25c left in my pocket. I never asked people for help. That wasn’t me. I wasn’t a quitter or a borrower, so most of my music business friends had no idea that I was eating cold tomato soup made from the sachets of ketchup you get from MacDonalds stirred into cold water out of the tap. Thinking back, YUK. That was my life. That was what I had to do to eat. I had no electricity in my apartment, no fridge, no hot water, and I was making pizzas at night at Kroger. I was also an illegal alien so men in suits scared me.

Back to the story. I had broken up with someone and he had moved on. So here I was with 25c in my pocket, it was getting dark and I needed to catch the bus home to Gallatin. I walked from 16 to downtown to catch the bus, past all the big studios and the Holiday Inn that used to be on the corner. I had missed the bus and I didn’t know if the driver would even let me on with just 25c. I climbed up the grassy hill in front of the government building and sat looking out over the city. To my left and in the distance was the building where my ex’s new love worked. I sat staring out at the city and wondered about the choices that had led me here.

“I give up.” I spoke softly and people walked by me without even seeing me. “I give up. I am going home. You win.” I could feel the 25c in my hand. The bus would be arriving soon. I got up and started to walk. There was a hot dog guy by the bus stop. I had never seen him before. He smiled at me. His coat was pulled tightly around him and his hands seemed to be playing a beat to music that wasn’t there.

“Want a hot dog?”

“No thanks.” I could feel the 25c in my hand. My stomach was rumbling. I could really love a hot dog. Dog v bus.

“I didn’t ask you if you wanted to buy a hot dog. Would you like a hot dog.”

“I have no money, sorry.”

“did I ask you for money? Do you want a hot dog?”

“Yes thank you. I have no money though.”

He handed me the hot dog wrapped in paper and smiled the most glorious smile I had ever seen. He looked at me scoffing the dog, then he leaned in and said in a deep and soft voice, “Don’t give up. Miracles happen. Oh, here is your bus.”

I thanked him for the hot dog and he smiled at me and when I turned to wave from the bus, he was no longer standing at the corner. I sat in deep thought all the way home. Miracles. Ok, so that was a sign. When I climbed the stairs to my little apartment, there was a note stuck with tape on my door from my neighbor. It read “there is a job advertised on the paper for a live in nanny in Green Hills. You wanna use my phone? x Donna.” Miracles?

So I called, and I didn’t get the job. The ad that Donna and I had both read “Wanted, live in Nanny to look after two beautiful and talented children. Live in required” but when I got there, it was a day job, and the doctors that had advertised said they couldn’t offer a live in position. So back to square one. Got back by taxi that they had kindly paid for and Donna was waiting at my door. A woman had called and wanted me to call her as soon as possible. Her name was Caroline. She was an artist, and she had been given my name. She came to meet me in a bright orange dodge van. She was amazing, and she wanted me to look after her two beautiful children. I moved into a mansion in Green Hills. She said that she had written an ad but hadnt run it. It read “Wanted, live in Nanny to look after two beautiful and talented children. Live in required.”

Miracles. New life. New start. (food) so…listen to your heart. Always. In all ways. No matter what.

rainy days and Mondays…

There is a storm coming. It reminds me of so many songs, most of which are country ones. So, I have a leaky roof now to add to the mounting things missed by the property inspector when I bought this new place. The joys of buying history. My new studio and home was built in 1908. She is a grand old lady with really high ceilings and the most gorgeous ceilings I have ever seen. Each room has a different design and each was done by hand by craftsmen in horse hair plaster. My bedroom is my favorite, with straight art deco styled lines broken only by beautiful roses. I lay awake at night and wish that the people that I bought the house from had not been smokers.

I also wish that they hadn’t painted the silky oak panelling in a hideous peach colour. Such a crime to wood lovers everywhere.

It is Monday, it is raining and I feel a bit melancholy. A bit odd. A bit out of connection with the world around me. The wind is really high and I want to go and stand in it and let it whip my hair around my face but the neighbors would think I was insane and maybe call someone to come and take me away.

Also, I have decided to cut sugar out of my diet completely. MAybe that is why I feel disconnected. Not enough sugar in my system. I am going to go down to the beach soon and get some storm shots. Don’t know why as I am not a landscape photographer, but who knows eh?

Thought for today: Blessed are those that believe.
